FOR SALE

Yep, it's for sale.

For sale is my 2002 e46 330ci. The car is a genuine sport model. Since ownership, the car has had a full service including 2 oil changes as well as a new rocker cover gasket and is in good mechanical order.

The DISA valve has also been removed, cleaned and checked for any issues, to which there are none.

The car itself starts, and runs fine. There are some marks around the body including some bubbling on the front arches.

The black leather interior is in decent condition. The trim could do with a refurb. The trim finisher is black carbon cube.

The original BMW tape radio has since been replaced with a CD model from a facelift car giving mp3 playback as well as aux in. The aux in has been connected to a bluetooth receiver for audio streaming and handsfree calling. Everything is hidden away from sight, retaining the factory appearance.

Update 1.

Well I should have probably updated this sooner, but owing to exams, everything else has been on hold.

Since having the e46, it's been a good, fun car to drive, but for some reason, one of the previous owners decided to play around with the audio in the car. Needless to say it was a complete mess with certain speakers not working, others sounding blown. All in all, not very good. To add to all that, the paint needed some TLC.

First was a light coat of polish. Auto Glym's dark polish was the product of choice here, and it brought back some of the lost shine. Despite this, it needs a machine on it with some cutting compound.

Of course, I couldn't put in all that time washing and polishing without a better picture!

Secondly, the car came came with an awful Sony headunit. This wasn't a big deal as the seller included the factory tape player too. This was refitted on the day I picked the car up. It was then when I learnt that the aerial connector has been cut. Why? I've no idea, it's not a big deal for me anyway.

I planned to have an aux-in adaptor to make things simple. Unfortunately the cable I ordered from eBay wouldn't work on the factory tape player without the CD changer...which was missing.

The other plan would be an interface of some kind or retrofit a radio from a newer model with CD and aux already there. Scrolling through eBay, I found they were all up for stupid prices, until I found a CD player for sale on a forum.

Armed with a stereo that has aux in, and the cable it was time to piece together the right solution. Cue the Himbox HB01. Belkin had a similar product, but it was more expensive and the reviews were sketchy at best. Bit the bullet and its been working well so far.

Having a working radio meant I was able to see what speakers worked and what didn't. The car is equipped with the Harmon Kardon system. It's not all that impressive, but it does the job well enough.

With that said though, the front woofers sounded like they were struggling with the lows, so they were swapped out with the woofers from a JBL component set I had laying about. Massive improvement right there.

Next came the subwoofers. The HK system uses two 6x9 woofers as subs and regardless of what setting I have, their output was miserable. Hopping in the boot to take it all apart I noticed that the rear speakers Alpine branded coaxils. Halting all work on the subs, I went back inside the cabin to see if they were wired properly...no surprise to find it was just wires wrapped around the terminals. No proper connectors or solder. Nor was there much of a midbass response or any highs.

Reaching for my 'blown' front woofers, I set about removing the Alpines to find they hadn't even been fitted properly. Just sandwiched between the mounting ring and the speaker adaptor. Fitted the HK woofers in their place and it the improvement was big.

Back to the subs, couldn't find anything wrong with them, the amplifier was putting out power, the woofers had expected resting impedance and so forth. Writing that off to just a weak bass section. I can deal with that now the mids and highs actually sound half decent!

Now on to the tyres. The seller was so excited to tell me that the car has good tread on all the tyres...casually brushed off my comments that they were budget tyres. No big deal though, but with that said, there were a few incidents where on slow roundabouts with standing water, the rear end would step out. Not encouraging to say the least, especially when I wasn't trying to get the back end out. Any way, I had the 108's with decent tyres sitting around from my Z4...so they went on.

I think it suits the car well, just needs a little lowering...

Post exams, there will be more updates, actual work in getting the car ready for the track and all that good stuff. However, for now, revision calls.

New Car!

With the e36 finally back on the road I was loving every second of it. Somewhat raw and simple, however I did feel that there was a lack of power.

Knowing this when I went to buy the car, I knew what I was getting myself into but actually driving the car showed it was a little lower than I'd have liked.

As such, armed with all the basic mechanical knowledge I had gathered from working on the e36, I started looking at replacements.

Firstly having engine swaps to the m52b28 unit from the 328i which would slot right in. However insurance companies weren't to willing to play ball there owing to my circumstances. Subsequently, any forms of forced induction were out of the window as a result.

The only result would be a replacement car. E36 M3's were on the table however with rising prices, it made no economical sense, especially for what the car's intended use would be. Looking elsewhere the e46 330ci was considered. Surprisingly enough, with insurance premiums being cheaper than my e36 and the overall cost of exchange being manageable, the hunt began to find a suitable replacement.

Scouring all over ebay, pistonheads, autotrader, gumtree, and forums, I had narrowed down a list of potential cars. Unfortunately of the already short list, not many actually checked all the boxes that I'd have liked. All except 4. Of which three were sold. On the way to see the fourth, I received a call from the seller stating that that car had just been sold. No harm done I thought, but the seller then told me they had another come in.

Already being half way there, I decided to check it out and long story short, ended up putting down a deposit! That allowed me to sort out insurance, to get the car back and here she is!

New Car!

2002 BMW 330ci

First things first, I got the marigolds out and got scrubbing. APC and a variety of brushes resulted in a massive improvement. Aside from the front two wings which need a lot of tlc, the rest of the car has scrubbed up not too badly.

In addition to that, the car needed a service. For peace of mind everything was refreshed. Starting with removing the K&N that one of the previous owners thought would be a good idea.

Whilst changing the filter, APC was used again for both the air box and engine bay.

The cabin filter was also due a refresh as well!

Not to forget a new oil filter and fresh oil.

Following the service came an excuse to enjoy the car...so a 6 car convoy to London was needed.

There are lots and lots of plans for this car, but I've set myself a task to sell all my unused car parts until any new parts are purchased.

If you've got to the end of this, thanks for reading! Will hopefully have more updates very soon!
